Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann (1826-1866) was a German mathematician who made important contributions in the fields of analysis, differential geometry, and number theory, including a study of $\zeta(s)$ for $s$ complex. His conjectures on $\zeta(s)$ include the celebrated and still unsolved Riemann hypothesis. Riemann studied under Gauss and Dirichlet.
